Wellcome Trust

Location: Wellcome Genome Campus, Cambridge
Status: Completed
Area: 1,600 sqm

The Wellcome Trust Conference Centre is one of the world’s leading scientific conference centres.

Set within the walled heritage garden of the 18thC Hinxton Hall complex and surrounding the existing 300-seat Francis Crick Auditorium, an elliptical translucent glass roof encloses the space to provide exhibition and breakout spaces.

The new drum surrounding the auditorium is decorated with perforated metal panels of handdrawn phylogenetic trees based on genetic research undertaken on campus, and provides an original and dynamic location for exhibitions, poster sessions, networking events.

The building was a finalist in Blueprint Magazine’s annual Design Awards in the categories of Best Public-Use Building and Best Interior Project.
