The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) funded the £20m expansion of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI)with a new bioinformatics-related research and training facilities building.
The new three-storey building host over 240 researchers and the ELIXIR Directorate, the new European research infrastructure for life science data. Training facilities include a 150-seat lecture theatre, IT training rooms and media studio.
Periodic occupant surveys continue to report a high level of satisfaction with the building. The building received a Special Commendation in the annual RIBA (East) Design Awards and was a finalist in FX Interior’s Interior Design Awards program.
